Future Leaders Institute delivers academic excellence, develops independent thinkers, and invites every student to discover unrealized skills and talents. Teachers design varied learning experiences to promote student collaboration, connect concepts between curriculums, and create the best possible learning environment.
Future Leaders Institute delivers specially designed instruction to support students' individual needs. Every year FLI assesses the validity of the curriculum used in all content areas.
Instructional lead team members, consultants, and experienced teachers work to choose curriculum best suited for meeting the instructional needs of our students, as well as focusing on the skills and standards that should be mastered within a grade. Students receive instruction in Science, Social Studies, Math, Reading and Writing daily. Select groups of school students participate in Regent’s prep courses as well as test prep academy and summer academy.
A dual approach
At FLI, we use a dual approach to teach English Language Arts by teaching word recognition and reading comprehension simultaneously to foster skilled readers. There is a dedicated reading specialist teacher who works closely with classroom teachers to assess student’s progress in reading.
Concrete, pictorial, abstract
We believe that all students are capable of learning grade-level mathematics. By following the concrete, pictorial, abstract (CPA) approach to learning mathematics, in our math classes you may find students using physical objects to solve math problems, followed by drawings, and then using numbers with symbols, mathematical expressions, and equations to solve problems. Remedial support is provided within the classroom, either one-on-one or in a small group.
Inquiry based, hands on
We believe that every student deserves the benefits of science education—not just exposure to scientific phenomena, but the opportunity to understand and explain them. FLI uses an Inquiry based hands on curriculum for science.
K–8, plus civics in 6th grade
Our K-8 social studies curriculum addresses the New York State Social Studies Standards as students explore the geography and history of their communities, New York City, New York State, the United States of America, the Western Hemisphere, and the Eastern Hemisphere. At the start of middle school in 6th grade, students participate in a civics course.

Extended DayHigh School Placement
Future Leaders Institute supports the high school placement process every year for our 8th grade students and their families.
NYC has much to offer, but with so many options the process can be overwhelming. FLI will provide assistance with every aspect of the high school admissions process including appropriate school selection, audition and interview preparation, portfolio assembly, financial aid solutions as well as academic and guidance counseling. This is made possible by our fulltime Highschool Placement coordinator.
