All students, except for kindergartners, participate in enrichment classes from 3:00 PM to 4:55 PM Monday through Thursday. FLI's enrichment program develops student character, self-discipline, self-esteem and an appreciation for the importance of perseverance and practice. The skills and talents students develop stay with them throughout their lives and help them gain admissions to top high schools and colleges. The program includes:
FLI's focus on visual and performing arts provides opportunities for students to express themselves, develop self-awareness, build communication skills, increase their cultural understanding and unlock their creative potential. Experienced local artists work with FLI students each afternoon. Each day, students participate in 1.5 hours of enrichment class sessions. During the arts enrichment periods, students have opportunities to engage in African Drumming, African Dance, Creative Movement and Tap, Chorus, Keyboard & Music Theory and a Visual Arts program including in-depth study of drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture and photography.
Physical EducationPhysical activity is a key factor in leading a healthy lifestyle and reducing chronic illnesses. FLI students participate in high-quality physical fitness activities every day. FLI's focus on physical activity builds student's strength and endurance, encourages teamwork and incorporates activity into their daily routine. Students participate in classes including Track and Field, Fitness & Nutrition, Sports, Group Games (cut Martial Arts), and the Boy's and Girl's Basketball teams during the Enrichment Program. FLI aligns P.E. activities with the Charter School's curriculum and the New York State Learning Standards.
