In the spring of 2009, Architecture for Humanity hosted a competition in which designers were invited to collaborate with students and teachers in envisioning the classroom of the future. A team from the Gensler architectural firm partnered with FLI to produce the concept of the “Blurred Classroom.” Selected as one of the ten finalists, the design represented one of more than 400 entry submissions from more than 1,000 design teams in 65 countries. Although not chosen as the grand prize winner, the design was presented to Michelle Obama at the White House and is currently part of a world-wide traveling exhibit.
